As the cold sets upon us and the winter is finally here, it’s time to admit that the summer is well and truly gone. No longer can you spend your days basking in the warmth, enjoying the sunlight and heat and spending your evenings languidly on your terrace. Instead, you find yourself rushing from place to place, tired, cold and ready to wrap up warm pretty much non-stop. Unfortunately, with the cold weather can come other symptoms such as being constantly ill with a cold or flu, tinnitus being bad - you can read up on how seasons influence symptoms - and feeling constantly chilly. In this article, we take a look at how you can take care of yourself this winter.
Once the winter comes, the sun disappears and it can be harder to get the same vitamins you would in the summer months. Particularly vitamins such as Vitamin D can be an easy deficit in the winter due to not seeing so much sun. It’s a good idea to take some multivits to ensure you’re getting enough of everything and this can also help you to not get so ill in the winter months too. These can come in the form of capsules or dissolvable ones that you can have as a drink in the morning.
One thing that can take a back seat in the winter is what you eat. Once the weather turns cold, your sights turn to more stodgy foods that perhaps aren’t so full of the vitamins and nutrients you need to stay healthy. In the summer you probably eat lighter foods such as salads and fresh fruit, but this can stop once the weather turns cold. To stop this being an issue, make a conscious effort to eat your fruits and vegetables, adding extra ones to things such as stews or soups so it’s still hearty food but perhaps a little better for your body.
As well as our diets changing, the cold weather can change the way we work out, either stopping us completely from doing outside sports such as running, tennis or football, or the cold and dark days deterring us from going to the gym. Make a conscious effort to still go to the gym if you can, and if not, do some workout videos and different exercises from home. This way you can still take care of yourself and feel good about yourself, without worrying about leaving your home.
These are a few things you can do that can help you to take care of yourself this winter. When the weather turns cold it can be easy to just neglect yourself and how you feel, turning to comfort food and just sitting inside, but it’s important to still take care of your physical and mental health. What are some top tips you have that can help you do this? Let us know, we’d love to hear from you.
