When we talk about taking care of our health, we mostly focus on our general health. This is important, especially if you’re trying to manage your career and don’t want health problems to get in the way.
But as well as your general health, you should also consider other potential health problems. Here are a few things to look out for to make sure you’re completely healthy.
Poor eyesight is fairly common, you just have to look around at how many people wear glasses to understand. But there are a few different kinds of poor eyesight.
If you’re going to need glasses for life, you will mostly know this by the time you’re an adult. Poor eyesight is sometimes genetic and you might be either short-sighted (where you can’t see distance) or long-sighted (where you can’t see things up close). You can also have other issues with your eyesight like astigmatism, where your vision is generally blurred.
However, your eyesight can also degrade in adulthood. Many people become long-sighted as they get older, and you can also develop other eye problems.
If you need glasses, get your eyes checked every year or two. If you don’t get your eyes checked if you notice regular headaches or difficulty reading or seeing distances.
There are a lot of causes of hearing loss and, unfortunately, you might struggle to notice as your brain adjusts. The sooner you get help for hearing loss, the sooner you can get it sorted out. Some hearing loss is temporary, especially with the help of a doctor, and even permanent hearing loss can sometimes be prevented if you know about it.
If you or someone you love suspects that you’re losing your hearing, get a hearing test. speech audiometry in hearing tests is especially helpful because you might have to communicate a lot in your job, so it’s important to make sure you can hear people properly.
Your dental health is very easy to ignore until you have a problem, then it can be incredibly painful and distressing. Your teeth don’t heal, so prevention is the best way to have healthy teeth so you can get on with your life.
Make regular trips to the dentist for checkups and, if you do experience toothache or other issues, get it seen to right away. The sooner it’s dealt with, the sooner you can get rid of the pain.
In recent years, there’s less of a stigma surrounding mental health. This is great because there has also been a significant rise in the amount of people who struggle with their mental health.
In some ways, mental health problems can be more disabling than physical health problems. It’s important to be proactive. As well as looking after your body, look after your mind. This will help you to enjoy your life and your work far more, while preventing the dreaded effects of burnout.
